Tulips Are Blooming.

A little bit more of spring pops up every day.  On the way to the grocer's I saw Forsythia and Azaleas in bloom along the way.  Here in our garden the Tulips are starting to bloom along with more and more daffodils.  Trees are blossoming.  Green leaves are starting to bud.
The first tulips with others around the garden showing green.

Tulips and Daffies here.

This is the view of the river on the other side of the bridge with its shorefront cottages.

In this one, on the right, you can see the small island that splits the river here.  It flows more slowly on this side of the bridge, gathering momentum as it reaches the water falls on my side of the bridge.

The bridge that links our town with our neighbor.

When I went shopping two days ago when I took my corgi dog Penny for her annual check-up and Rabies booster (she's in A-1 shape I'm pleased to report), I checked out the plants at Walmart.  What a mess.  They had several cool and hot weather plants but the tomatoes and peppers were in horrible shape.  I think it must be the cold nights that messed them up.  I didn't buy any because I didn't want to put mine in pots too early.  I was also not pleased with the varieties available.

For my few containers I want only tomatoes, English thyme and lettuces.  I have all my pots and I even bought potting mix but not enough for all I want to fill.  I'll stock up with more next week and compost, too, along with some tomato cages for the taller plants.

I checked online at Territorial Seed in Oregon.  They sell plants as well as seeds, and for the north states that don't put in their starts til the end of May, you can still order online.  It may be a little later than I usually plant tomatoes, but I have found that the later plants always catch up with the early ones whose growth stalls when there are cool nights.  I won't have a problem with setting them out around Memorial Day.

Well friends, I ordered online.  I have dealt with them before and they ship healthy plants.   I'm glad I checked.   I was able to get tomatoes which I can't buy here at the big box stores like Home Depot and Lowe's so I'm pleased. They were reasonable rates even though the shipping is a bit costly.  Still, I will have plants I would not have otherwise.  I'll try to get pictures of the varieties I chose.

Temps here today are in the low 60sF and its just ideal sunny weather.  As Goldilocks would say, "Its Just Right!"

Have a good day.

  1. We don't have flowers yet but our Irises are definitely rowing as are some Tulips we planted. I've been thinking about getting some store bought flower plants to set about our yard so the bees will have food. also i am sure the Hummers will like it too. Cannot wait to see all the beautiful creatures that come out in the warmer weather!! Take dear friend! :-)
